How to Save Money When Buying Organic
🤑Let’s save some moola shall we?!?🤑
Wanting to buy organic isn’t always feasible and affordable but as the demand increases it’s slowly becoming more and more attainable!
💸 Here are some additional ways to save when you’re buying organic 🙌🏻:
🔎 Focus on the dirty dozen: if you have to pick and choose, try to focus on these items being organic as they are the most heavily sprayed items.
😁 2. Save with the clean 15: these are items that are least sprayed and do not necessarily need to be organic!
🍌 Other produce items with thicker skin don’t necessarily need to be organic either!
🍇 3. Wash and Rinse Produce: Always wash your produce, especially when its not organic! Wash items by soaking them for 5-10 mins with produce wash, baking soda or vinegar. Rinse with filtered water (when possible),
🛒 4. Buy & Stock in Bulk: Buy bulk with family or friends and split the items. Shop at discount bulk stores when possible. Stock up when items are on sale. Freeze items so they. last longer until you need them ex) bread, nuts, oats, berries and more!
🗑 5. Reduce Food Waste: Utilize leftovers as much as possible. Keep key items frozen until they are needed such as bread, frozen vegetables and fruits. Try to only purchase what you plan to use.
👨🌾 6. Buy Local and In Season: Focus on surplus produce that is in season. Supporting local farmers markets can be less expensive than grocery stores. Ask farmers about their farming practices. Many of them adopt organic practices but can not afford the organic certification.
